In this term I am committed to bringing about progressive drug law reform, legalising cannabis, fixing the broken RDT system and growing the hemp industry. I am also focused on ensuring that we protect civil liberties, our environment and enact policies that look after the disadvantaged in our society."
The criminalisation of cannabis use disproportionately harms young people and indigenous people, leads to massive levels of violence and corruption, and fails to curb youth access.
Legalising and regulating cannabis will bring one of the nation’s largest cash crops under the rule of law. This will create jobs and economic opportunities in the formal economy instead of feeding the illicit market.
Scarce law enforcement resources will be better used to ensure public safety whilst reducing corrections and court costs. Governments would acquire significant new sources of revenue from regulating cannabis sales.
Cannabis product testing is becoming a standard requirement for legalised cannabis markets. This means consumers are better informed about the cannabis they use.
